Claude MCP Apps: Bring Your Business Into Claude
Your customers may use Claude as well as ChatGPT. If your business has useful data or actions behind an API, an MCP connection can bring those capabilities into their conversations. With the MCP Apps extension, a supported host can also show an interactive interface, such as a form, chart, or dashboard.
What is a Claude MCP App?
Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard for connecting AI applications to external tools and data. An MCP server exposes the tools a host can call. For example, a customer could ask for their current plan, check an order, or update a task, subject to the permissions you provide.
MCP Apps adds interactive UI to that connection. A tool can point to a UI resource, and a supporting host can render it in the conversation. Anthropic calls these experiences interactive connectors in Claude. A customer can inspect information or work with a form alongside the conversation instead of relying on text alone.
MCP tools and MCP Apps are related but distinct. A tool can work without an interactive UI. A host that does not support the UI extension can still use the tool when its other requirements are met.
One foundation, separate host connections
MCP Apps is designed for supporting hosts, including Claude and ChatGPT. That gives builders a shared foundation for tools and UI, but each host still has its own installation, authentication, capability checks, and distribution process. Test the actual result in each host before sharing an app with customers. A private connection is not a public directory listing.
For a business, a practical path looks like this:
- Choose one useful customer task and the data or action it needs.
- Define a narrow MCP tool with the right permissions and authentication.
- Add an interactive UI if it improves the task, and provide a useful text response too.
- Connect and verify the release in Claude and ChatGPT separately.
Where Kernel Apps fits
Kernel Apps is building around this shared MCP foundation. Our private pilot has run a real service workflow with interactive UI in both ChatGPT and Claude. Broader access, more kinds of business apps, and public distribution are still being developed. We are not promising that one click publishes an app to every host.
If you already have an API, the goal is to connect it to a focused app without rebuilding your service. If you are starting without one, Kernel Apps-managed data is part of the product direction. In either case, the host connection, customer identity, permissions, and final in-chat behavior need to be checked against the real service.
