A Private MCP App Launch Checklist for ChatGPT and Claude

A private MCP app is ready for an invitation only when the intended customer can connect, complete the task, and return to the same saved state. Treat ChatGPT and Claude as separate acceptance paths, even when they share an MCP server.

1. State the release scope

Name the customer task, supported host, required authentication, and known limits. Distinguish a local preview from a hosted endpoint and an actual working host connection. A private connection does not imply public directory approval.

2. Check identity and isolation

Use the intended account and environment. Confirm that the server authorizes that identity and only returns its permitted records. Repeat sign-in or reopening checks so a fresh session does not silently create a different customer. Avoid copying private record content into public troubleshooting pages.

3. Complete a real record workflow

Create a disposable record through the normal product flow. Read it, update it, and confirm the new state in the interface and the authoritative service. Remove only the record designated for this check. Keep a separate continuity record when you need to verify retention across an update.

4. Repeat in each host

Check installation, consent, tool selection, text responses, and interactive UI separately in ChatGPT and Claude. A working server response does not prove that both hosts render or refresh the interface correctly. Record the observed result and any host-specific setup.

5. Check an update and rollback

Publish a compatible change through the normal release flow. Confirm that existing connections still work and saved records remain available. If the host caches tool definitions, follow its supported refresh flow and inspect the resulting version. Verify rollback behavior without assuming it reverses customer data changes.

6. Report evidence and limits

Keep a short record of the version, host, environment, observed result, and remaining failures. Say which path was actually operated. Do not describe an unverified host, different account, or simulated preview as completed production acceptance.
