Membership Services in ChatGPT and Claude: Explain Benefits and Request Changes
A coworking member asks, “Can I use a meeting room this week, and when does my membership renew?” A connected app can explain the member’s current plan and retrieve the relevant service rules. It should answer from the membership record rather than from a general description of the business’s plans.
This article outlines a possible MCP app workflow in ChatGPT or Claude. Model Context Protocol tools would connect to a membership system; this is not a claim that Kernel Apps already provides a coworking or subscription connector.
Retrieve the current entitlement
An entitlement is a recorded right to use a service, such as a number of room hours or access to a particular location. Show the plan currently active for the signed-in member, the entitlement period, and any recorded usage that affects availability.
A plan name alone may be insufficient. A legacy agreement or a temporary benefit may differ from today’s public pricing page. If the membership service cannot explain a benefit, route the question to staff instead of selecting the most generous interpretation.
Separate benefits from availability
Having room hours included does not mean a suitable room is free at the requested time. A booking step should check the location, room capacity, availability, and applicable charges before offering a confirmation.
Keep a statement such as “two included hours remaining this period” separate from a room reservation. The reservation service must save the selected slot and return its reference before the app says a booking is complete.
Request a change without hiding its consequences
If the member asks to pause a plan, retrieve the rules and show the requested start date, duration, effect on benefits, and any billing consequences provided by the service. If the request needs staff review, record a request rather than changing the membership directly.
Do not present an upcoming renewal date as proof that a payment has succeeded. Payment status, renewal schedule, and membership access are related but distinct records. Show uncertainty when the systems disagree.
Can members manage someone else’s account?
Only when the authoritative system grants that role. A person who knows another member’s email is not automatically allowed to view usage, change a plan, or cancel a booking. Household and company administrators need explicit scoped access.
Measure whether members can retrieve the same change request and understand its pending status. Fewer support questions would be an outcome to observe, not a promise to publish before launch.
